I'm a big believer that it is the small positive things we do in our day that have the biggest impact on our own well being. From here through the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, I've decided to just blog about the small things I'm doing to escape from the anxiety producing headlines in our news. I recognize that not everything I'm writing is of interest to others, so while some of my work will continue to be posted at socPub, all of my work can be viewed on my personal blog, bryanruby.com.

The outsourcing culture is thriving in the current business environment, and even if you’re not outsourcing any projects or processes to external partners, you still might want to consider adopting a more flexible approach to employee management, and allow them to work from the comfort of their homes. After all, why should an employee have to commute to the office every day if they mostly do their work on the computer – it’s just a waste of precious time and resources, and it needlessly inflates your overhead costs.
24 March 2020 – WatchGuard® Technologies’ latest Internet Security Report shows that evasive malware has grown to record high levels, with over two-thirds of malware detected by its Firebox security appliances in Q4 2019 evading signature-based antivirus solutions. This is a dramatic increase from the year-long average of 35% for 2019 and points to the fact that obfuscated or evasive malware is becoming the rule, not the exception. Companies of all sizes need to deploy advanced anti-malware solutions that can detect and block these attacks.
Many tech companies start on a small budget and grow rapidly. As you find yourself scaling up, you might be concerned about meeting the demand in the marketplace. However, there's a point where the work levels off, and you must consider the environment of your employees. After all, you want to keep those who've worked alongside you and cheered on your successes.
As a business leader trying to build a brand in this crazy, fast-paced world, much of your job will come down to engaging and motivating your employees. After all, if top talent is what you’re after and if employee retention is your goal, you need to be proactive and you need to incentivize and inspire them to stay at your side through thick and thin.
If the number of women working in cybersecurity rose to equal that of men, there would be a $30.4 billion boost to the industry’s economic contribution in the US and a £12.6 billion boost in the UK. This is according to a new report from Tessian, the human layer security company. The report also reveals that closing the gender pay gap, and equalizing women’s salaries to men’s, could add a further $12.7bn and £4.4bn to the US and UK economies respectively.
