Deployed for sophisticated projects by global and recognizable brands, Jahia xCM gets even smarter and now allows non technical users to fully control the User Experience on any mobile device.

Washington, DC October 18 2012 - Jahia, provider of the next-generation Open Source CMS, announced today the availability of the new version of its flagship CMS solution: Jahia xCM 6.6.1. Even though digitized as “minor”, this new version unlocks new authoring interfaces, providing major improvements in the areas of mobile rendering and related in-context edition.

Quoting IT: Mobile disrupts content management

"All of this means that it might be time to rethink what we need from content management in a mobile context, and if it's the same as what we needed in a client-server one. The challenge is figuring out what your needs truly are in this brave new world, and what they are going to be a year from now. Are you one of the companies that truly requires command and control, or is your priority content access on any device at any time?"

Joomla 3.0 CMS Optimized for Mobile Devices and Administrators

This week, the Joomla! community took a huge step forward toward mobile devices and usability with the release of the latest version of their content management system, Joomla 3.0. The Joomla CMS can now display content on mobile devices as clearly and distinctly as it does on a personal computer or Mac. This innovation makes Joomla the first major CMS that includes the Twitter Bootstrap framework that enables it to be 100 percent mobile-friendly by default. So it is no surprise that the Joomla! project is highlighting Joomla 3 as a CMS that's mobile ready and user friendly.

JaxReady Emergency Preparedness Mobile App built on Kentico CMS

Yesterday, a press release submitted by Kentico Software regarding JaxReady came across my desk. JaxReady is a smartphone app created by the City of Jacksonville to keep local residents informed in the event of a natural disaster and is built on the Kentico CMS. Over the years, I've worked with a number of emergency managers and almost everyone of them will tell you that the biggest difficulty they face as EMs is having the general public take interest in emergency preparedness well before a disaster hits.

I purchased the Google Nexus 7 tablet

If you follow me on Google+ or Twitter, you likely already know that I am not a tablet fan. I know the statement is contradictory when coming from a techy person like me. I have a hard time seeing the benefit of a tablet in my day to day life. I already own a great smartphone (the Android-based Droid Razr) and I prefer the ease of a physical keyboard on my computer and notebooks when writing content is crucial. Overall, I'm just not convinced that a tablet will allow me to do anything more than what my current devices already do. Perhaps this is a sign of my age, but I lost my "wow" some time ago for new technology.

The Start of Responsive Web Design

Responsive Web Design is without a doubt one of the Web's biggest buzzwords for 2012. The Web is changing fast and even though the importance of CMSs addressing mobile devices was well predicted, I suspect even the tech gurus are surprised at the current growth rate of smartphones. If you don't know it by now, there is a lot of pressure on web designers and site builders to ensure that their client's websites are responding to the changing Internet. A website should look good no matter how it is being displayed, whether that site is being viewed on a desktop, cell phone, tablet, or whatever new device the Ghost of Steve Jobs brings us.

Web Publishing Interviews by Michael Assad

Michael Assad, the CEO and a co-founder of Agility, must have been one busy man with a video camera during this year's SXSW. Michael was able to interview a number of leaders in the Web publishing industry including people working for such groups as Time Inc., Hearst, BBC, the New York Times, and Al Jazeera.

My two favorite interviews includes Michael's interview with Perry Solomon from Time Inc and his interview with Bill Adair from PolitiFact. One of my long standing criticisms of traditional media has been their lack of enthusiasm in embracing digital media. As a blogger, I tend to think that perhaps they "just don't get it" but such an argument would not be honest nor truthful. There are major players in the publishing industry that have known for decades that digital publishing needed to be a part of their business model. That iPad you're using wouldn't have been possible without the amount of brain storming provided years prior by these publishers.

Given one reason or another though, publishers until recently have been slow to deliver their content in the multiple formats and the mediums we prefer. As skilled as the publishing industry may be for delivering digital content their achilles heel has been unwillingness to take necessary risks. That's why this is great video footage from Michael as they show the print industry is now ready to fullly evolve and allow the digital publishing business take to be fully integrated with traditional print. At least that's what I take away from these videos.

Telerik Sitefinity 5.0 improves mobile content management tools

New mobile features help customers tap into “responsive design” techniques; creating websites that fluidly adapt to any screen size (smartphones, tablets, desktops and more).
