It's impossible to ignore big data. Even industries such as oil and gas — which have historically taken a pass on these technologies — are now gearing up to invest in big data. According to a recent Visiongain report, oil and gas companies are set to spend $3.51 billion on big data this year, while the market at large is headed for a $72 billion dollar future by 2022. Bottom line?
On an early August morning, users of Amazon Web Services (AWS) woke up to some rather startling and frightening news. Error messages indicated that services were down both for the Simple Storage Service (S3) and Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) solutions that Amazon provides. This severe outage lasted well into the afternoon and early evening before Amazon finally notified its customers that the problems had been corrected and services restored. While the outage lasted less than a day, it sparked a new discussion about what caused it and, just as important, how to prevent such outages from occurring in the future. For some, the solution to the problem was clear: decentralized cloud computing.

Google has already rolled out its fiber-optic technology for residents in specific areas of Kansas City – on both sides of the state line. High-speed Internet and TV services have come to many of the city’s “fiberhoods” – a neighborhood which has pre-registered for Google’s network in order to get its service.
The fiber has been installed in twelve areas of Kansas City, Kansas and in two areas of Kansas City, Missouri. The installation is in progress in many more areas of the Kansas City metropolitan.
