Companies generally seek a new WCMS when the handling of existing content has become inefficient, fragmented, or unmanageable.

Defining “CMS” is more complicated than it used to be as it now often encompasses a number of disciplines, some new and some old. Generally speaking, an effective WCMS brings a company and its web content together, and while most large organizations realized this years ago, small and mid-size organizations continue to reach the same conclusion.

Version 8.0.2 of Alkacon Software's successful open source website content management system OpenCms 8 is now ready and available for download from alkacon.com.

OpenCms 8 contains a greatly improved user interface for content managers and numerous other enhancements. The "Advanced Direct Edit" mode allows content managers to create page content by drag & drop. The new sitemap editor allows creating new pages and rearranging the navigation tree by drag & drop.

This month, Packt Publishing began accepting nominations for its 2011 Open Source Awards. Breaking tradition, I've declined the invitation this year to be a member of the judging panel of this award (I've been a judge for the past four years). Regardless of my lack of participation as a judge, I still think this a great award and merits mention here on my blog.

DotNetNuke Corp. today announced the availability of DotNetNuke 6 which they bill as "the world’s leading Web Content Management Platform (WCM) for Microsoft .NET".  Over the years, I've been quite impressed with what DotNetNuke has to offer and I've been equally impressed with the DotNetNuke leaders I've engaged with in recent months.

We're excited to announce the immediate availability of Escher CMS 0.9.2. This release is the culmination of sixth months of development, and it significantly enhances Escher CMS with several new features and capabilities.

Here are the highlights:

MotoCMS, one of the leading Flash CMS and Flash CMS templates providers, announced today  the release of Moto CMS New Version 1.5. With each release the system becomes more advanced and user-friendly. The new release 1.5 significantly improves the system functionality, and also adds some innovations that have no analogs on the market.

As expected, this week the Drupal development team released Drupal 7.3 and Drupal 7.4. 

Drupal 7.3, a maintenance release which fixes security vulnerabilities is now available for download.

Drupal 7.4 also fixes other issues reported through the bug tracking system.
