There is a new version of OpenCMS available, OpenCms 9. OpenCms is an enterprise ready web content management solution built in Java and XML from open source components. OpenCms can has historically been easily deployed on almost any existing IT infrastructure and suited for medium and large enterprise internet or intranet applications. This new version was developed by Alkacon Software GmbH with the support of the international OpenCms developer community.

OpenCms 9 brings several enhancements while being fully backward compatible with OpenCms 8.x. Significant new features and improvements in OpenCms 9 include:

Yesterday, The Joomla! Project and Community announced the availability of Joomla CMS 3.2.0 Stable. Since the release of 3.1.5, over 1085 commits have been made to the code base with 50 different people contributing to commits. But this release has a lot more than just bug fixes and includes a host of long awaited features for the open source content management system.

SetSeed recently announced version 8 of its CMS that offers a compelling alternative to WYSIWYG-based content management. Expanding on this well-received concept, SetSeed 8 adds an all-new interface with improved mobile experience and new APIs that allow web designers and agencies to use SetSeed to power an own-branded website builder product.

For the first time in a few years, CMS Report isn't present at Liferay's North American Symposium currently taking place in San Francisco. However, we still have plenty of our friends there helping to feed us with any CMS related news coming out of this conference. Probably the biggest news presented yesterday was Liferay, Inc. revealing Liferay Portal 6.2 to the crowd. 

Liferay offers a more refined, mobile-ready version of the company’s flagship product. The new version should also help enterprises execute their engagement strategy across channels and audiences by making it easy to create mobile-responsive websites that connect with users across every stage of the relationship lifecycle.

So why is content management so important to the enterprise? The most vital asset that a company has is its data. In September's CMS-Connected show, I once again had the privilege of being a guest reviewer for their "CMS In the Spotlight" segment. This time around I reviewed e-Spirit's FirstSpirit CMS. Never heard of it? Honestly, I hadn't either until CMS-Connected Producer Gary Eisenstein assigned me the gig. Come to find out, FirstSpirit CMS helps run a number of international sites from companies like Bosch, KLM, Speedo, Sterling Jewelers, and Nintendo of Europe. While doing my homework, I walked away from the demo impressed with the amount of effort e-Spirit had done to improve usability for authors and editors.
